Yard Shunter Training


COURSE OVERVIEW: 

PR Training Ltd offer instruction and training for LGV Yard Shunter Drivers at customer premises.

Manoeuvring and Reversing on site is a major cause of workplace accidents and can lead to serious and sometimes fatal injuries/. Yard Shunter Drivers should be trained in safe working practices to minimise the risk of potentially costly accidents.

The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) requires employers to provide adequate training, instruction and supervision for all employees.  Manoeuvring and reversing vehicles on site is a major cause of workplace collisions and can lead to serious or fatal injuries.  Yard Shunter Drivers should be trained in safe practices to minimise the risk of collisions.

The Yard Shunter Driver training course is designed to equip your shunter drivers with the knowledge of how to safely manoeuvre vehicles whilst being fully aware of the hazards and dangers around them.

The training will include the following areas:

  • Daily Checks (Tractor unit and Trailer)
  • The role of the Shunter Driver
  • Understanding work safety procedures
  • Health and Safety at Work
  • Vehicle and trailer controls
  • Coupling and un-coupling of trailer
  • Manoeuvring & Reversing
  • Safe Systems of Work
  • Duties of Employee/ Employer
  • Defect Reporting

On completion of the course, successful candidates will receive certification stating that they have passed and completed a Yard shunter driver programme incorporating the above training elements. 

COURSE DURATION:

Novice Operatives (2-3 Days) dependant on operative’s experience and class of driving licence.

Experienced Operatives (1-2 Days) dependant on experience and class of driving licence.

CERTIFICATION:

A Certificate of Basic Training for each operator will be issued upon successful completion of both the Theoretical Knowledge and Practical exams. A grading of Pass or Distinction will be issued dependant on candidate’s results achieved within both the theoretical and practical examinations.
